Understanding Acetate Stability

Most mass produced budget frames use petroleum derived nylon or polycarbonate pellets melted and shot into a steel mould. While this process is fast, the resulting plastic contains residual internal stresses. Over several weeks of daily body heat and temple flexing, injection moulded frames twist out of square.

Why Block Acetate Behaves Differently

Cellulose acetate begins as organic cotton fibres transformed into sheets, pressed under heat, and cured for weeks. The material is dense and homogeneous.

Evaluating Your Frame Integrity

When selecting frames for daily reading or office work, run your finger along the inner edge of the eyewire. A milled acetate frame shows crisp bevel cuts that hold the lens periphery firm, preventing lens chatter and frame warp.
