Hinge Mechanics and Arm Play

The joint connecting the spectacle front to the temple arm experiences torsion every time the frame is put on or removed. Single-barrel and heat-staked hinges rely on thin pins that shear under moderate lateral torque.

Five-Barrel Machined Joints

A five-barrel hinge alternates three knuckles on the front lug with two knuckles on the temple lug. This design distributes mechanical shear across four distinct friction planes.

Maintaining Hinge Tension

A loose temple arm causes glasses to slide down the nose bridge during downward head movement. Five-barrel hinges utilise micro thread-locking compound to keep screw pins seated firmly across thousands of opening cycles.
